A Nevada Electrician Talks About The Incandescent Phase Out

The push to become greener has led to an impending phase out of incandescent light bulbs from the federal level. The 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act will begin to phase out incandescent light bulbs in 2012. The phase out will start with the 100-watt bulb. Many Nevada electricians and people working in the electrical and lighting industries already know about the change. However, a majority of consumers remain unaware of the phase out that is going to happen.

As a Nevada electrician it is important to let people know about changes in the industry that can affect them. Many people are already consistently buying and using CFLs. Yet, there are many others who still choose to buy and use incandescent lights bulbs. However, people can start educating themselves about the phase out and the benefits of using CFLs.

Many of those who have not switched to CFLs have two main concerns about the bulbs. The first is the cost.  While it is true that the upfront costs of buying CFLs is more than the standard incandescent, CFLs lasts longer and use less energy. They will be paying for themselves many times over. The second concern is about how to safely discard the bulb once it goes out. The bulbs contain traces of mercury inside. Many retailers, such as Home Depot, have containers where people can dispose the bulb. The retailer will safely discard the bulb for consumers.

The overall goal of this phase out is to help people save money and electricity in the long run. A Nevada electrician is a great resource for helping people become more energy efficient. A Nevada electrician can also explain how this incandescent phase out will affect people’s electrical needs, since there are exceptions. It is important for all consumers to know about the incandescent phase out and begin to make adjustments.
