An Electrician In Reno Talks About Training

There are multiple steps to becoming a successful electrician in Reno. To be successful in the electrical repair industry, mastering several different skills is essential.

Before a person can start working as an electrician in Reno, he or she must complete four-years of on-the-job training. The Associated Builders and Contractors Apprenticeship Program is a great option for people to learn the fundamentals and obtain their work experience. Once someone has completed their four years of on-the-job training, he or she must pass licensing exams and apply to receive an electrical contractor’s license.

If a person decides to work for a company, the company will most likely provide additional training for their electricians. At The Electric Company, we have our own training system. It is important to train all of our employees in sales and customer service. An electrician not only needs to be comfortable with diagnosing problems; he or she must also be comfortable with properly communicating with customers.

In order to continue working as an electrician in Reno, a person needs to take continuing education credits to renew the city license. If someone lets their license lapse, it can be difficult to prove that the electrician has kept up with any major changes in the industry.

Finally, it is also important for electricians to differentiate themselves from the competition. Differentiation is why customers see electricians from The Electric Company come in brightly detailed trucks with a uniform and  badge. We also price our work by a menu pricing system as we price things by the job and not by the hour. Providing exceptional customer service is one of the best ways to stand out from the competition.

To be a successful electrician in Reno, a person needs to be ready to continually learn and grow. Improving and adding skills is the way to stay in business for a long time.

This info is misleading. To work as an electrician in Reno, you only need a Reno city license, not an electrical contractors license. Of course the contractor or company you work for must have one.
In Sparks, Las Vegas, Carson City, Ext… You only have to get an electrical contractor or company to hire you.
The Reno city license is good for 3 years.

Mike,
It is correct in stating that an electrician needs to pass the Reno City Journeyman’s License exam in order to work for a contractor in Reno. The only person who needs a contractor’s license is the Electrical Contractor who hires the electricians to work for their company. Thanks for bringing that up.
